ancillary justice (15.5 - 16)

breq haven’t explained everything to seivarden just yet. only about ime station. which happened years after garsedd where it all started. (not clear but i think it’s about the anaandars splitting into two factions, treaty with the presgar, etc)

past. aboard justice of toren. anti-reform anaandar calls lieutenant awn to test her loyalty. anyway it doesn’t matter, anaandar is too paranoid. considers just killing the lieutenant on the possibility of her being used by the enemy (the other faction). lt. awn is close with lt. skaaiat who this anaandar considers a pro-reform, which makes her a traitor.

it was anaandar that set up the tanmind riot (she didn’t expect the orsians to trust lt. awn enough that they’d report the guns to her). it isn't explicitly said what faction though, maybe pro-reform? seems similar to ime station debacle; expose the corruptness, the empire worsens their reputation. (lt. skaaiat would spread the news that anaandar executed citizens.)

ime station. governor was given access to prevent reporting station activities. by anaandar. which one? the anaandar in the var decks preferred the whole incident to not have gone public…

anyway anaandar suggests lt. awn to accept clientage when lt. skaaiat offers it, and to report the other's activities. lt. awn refuses. anaandar orders one var segment to kill her.

justice of toren apparently is already under the pro-reform faction, so it complies with killing the lieutenant to not give away that fact. but it still kills this anaandar anyway so ?

communication between ancillaries is cut off again and one segment, one esk 19 escapes just before the ship explodes. this segment, breq, plans on going to irei palace.

thoughts that lead to actions can be dangerous.
thoughts that do not, mean less than nothing.
