ancillary justice (ch. 15) | the clouds (p. 65-69)

ancillary justice chapter 15

seivarden brings breq into a hospital in therrod. she paid with the money she got from selling their ship (almost bought kef with it but changed her mind apparently). she now knows about the garseddai weapon.

breq mentions why she hates seivarden. people like her seem to think they're naturally better than everyone else just because of the house they're born in. at least that's what i understood from the whole exchange.

more exposition about ime station. there was an unknown ship near the station (the Rrrrr) and the corrupt governor ordered mercy of sarrse one amaat to board it to collect people to make ancillaries and kill anyone else. ship leader or captain, idk basically the most senior one, refused to follow orders and defected to the Rrrrr system or something. in response, everyone was executed in ime station. punishment for the corruption, also as a show of force, dissuade others to mutiny.

the clouds pages 65-69

strepsiades goes inside some tunnel or cave for his initiation ritual.

the clouds + moon are expressing their annoyance with the athenians not heading the signs (omens) that they were giving them. they feel not appreciated basically.

blundering through - belief that bad political decisions of the citizens would eventually turn out to everyone’s advantage by divine intervention. ex. athenians elected kleon. the clouds gave a lot of signs to not elect the guy but no one listened. also the reforms to the lunar calendar, the clouds disapprove and again no one listened. apparently caused festivals to fall out of sync throughout greece (some places didn’t implement the changes, etc)
