minority report
some years before the start of the story there had been a crime epidemic and then precrime program was created to prevent crimes from happening in the first place. they use the visions of the future that the ‘precogs’ get. precogs are the three clairvoyants, agatha, arthur, and dash. (revealed later that they were the children of people who used drugs, something about brain damage.)
one day, john something, shows up in the ‘prevision’ as the murderer so obviously he’s gotta run. he’s convinced he’ll never kill anyone let alone the guy in the vision, leo something, who he has never met in his life. he has to prove his innocence. he’s also in a bit of a dilemma. if it proves true that he will not actually kill the guy (and he says so a couple of times,) it would mean that the precrime is unreliable and wouldn’t be allowed to be implemented nationwide. john personally believes precrime works and wants it to succeed...
anyway along the way he talks to one of the founders, a doctor who was working with the children years prior. she mentioned about minority reports, a different future one of the precogs get (usually agatha because she’s the strongest of the three). it’s also apparently usually discarded (including ‘echoes’) to avoid lessening precrime's credibility. anyway the doc suggests he check agatha in case she has a minority report that could clear his name.
so like more things happen, like john taking his eyes out so that he can go anywhere without being scanned. he successfully kidnaps agatha and surprise he doesn’t have a minority report. so he did kill the leo guy. etcetera etcetera john follows the path told by the vision, confronts leo who was apparently his son’s kidnapper and he almost kills him but he chooses differently at the last second (…also he still ends up killing him as leo idk did something like pulled the trigger in john’s hand??) also leo tells him he was just hired to pretend as the kidnapper to get john to kill him. there’s a third party who intentionally uses the prevision to their advantage.
anyway surprise the mastermind is lamar something, he’s one of the founders of precrime and is really invested in it becoming nationwide. prior to john showing up in the prevision, he was sniffing around a past missing case of ann lively, later revealed as agatha’s mother, also later revealed that lamar killed her for trying to get agatha back. so knowing john would eventually find out about his involvement, he decides to get rid of him which would be easy as previsions are treated as proof of crime already. it would also strengthen precrime’s credibility and there hasn’t been any murder for years so if john really does what the vision says, it will grab everyone’s attention and convince people that precrime is necessary for everyone’s safety idk
ending lamar kills himself even if the prevision said he would kill john. everyone witnessed it, proves precrime is wrong idk. the program is shut down, prisoners released, and the precogs are put in some isolated place.
